Selection of milling cutters for CNC machine tools

CNC machine tool hard table metal indexable face milling cutter is mainly used for plane milling. During rough milling, the diameter of the milling cutter should be smaller, because the cutting force is large during rough milling. Selecting a small diameter milling cutter can reduce the cutting torque. When finishing milling with CNC machine tools, the diameter of milling cutter should be larger, which can cover the entire width of the surface to be machined, so as to improve the accuracy and efficiency of T addition. When the machining allowance of the machine tool is large and uneven, the diameter of the tool should be smaller, otherwise, the machining quality of the workpiece will be affected due to too deep tool mark.

High-speed steel end mills are mostly used to process bosses and grooves, but generally not to process the blank surface, because the hardened layer and sand inclusion on the blank surface will accelerate tool wear.

When machining the blank surface or rough hole, the end milling cutter with cemented carbide or corn milling cutter can be selected for cutting.

When machining the peripheral contour of a plane workpiece, the end mill C is often used.

In order to improve the increase accuracy of groove width and reduce the number of tool changes, a milling cutter with a diameter of 7 wider than the groove can be used during processing. First, the middle part of the groove is milled, and then both sides of the groove are milled with the tool radius compensation function.

Ball end milling cutter, ring milling cutter, drum milling cutter, cone milling cutter, disc milling cutter, etc. are often used when machining solid surface or variable bevel profile.

When the machining allowance is small and the surface roughness requirement is high, the face milling cutter with cubic boron nitride insert or ceramic insert can be selected for high-speed cutting of the machine tool
